I'm fuming, Barclaycard are utterly useless.

They recently took over Egg and issued me a new card I tried to update all the things I pay for with it but have obviously forgotten one as Barclacard sent me a text saying it had just cancelled a payment.

I called their "Helpline" to find a woman with such a heavy Indian accent that I could hardly understand her. She kept repeating that they don't cancel payments I repeatedly asked for a manager and she hung up on me !

I've Googled and it seems this is fairly common practise.

So I want to cancel my card.

BUT I owe them £70 and they owe me £150 in cashback which isn't due to be paid until April.

If I cancel my card does that mean they won't give me the cashback - I suspect it does.

No.

I had a nice transfer to the barclaycard from Egg, everything worked ... Except the online account didn't show the new card, only my old barclaycard. So I sent them a message, telling them that the account wasn't linked, please fix

The retard at the other end somehow interpreted this as my card is lost, and cancelled it,

Got my new card very quickly, £20 credit for my troubles.

But since then, no previous statements and no cash back balance. Sent them another message, but all I got is, we are aware of it and working on it. Been three plus weeks since then and no improvement,

I'm pretty sure I will be cancelling both the Barclaycards I now have, once my cash back is paid, to get one from somewhere else. Even if it means getting a little less cash back due to charges.

Any excuse to NOT pay you will be used. Just remember that this lot, and all the other Banks/Building Societies are there to TAKE as much money as possible from us, and return as little back.

Ok that's what I thought.

I guess I'll just cut it up but won't cancel it until I've had the cashback.

Never had an issue in 5+ yrs with Egg.

Yep b'card are absolutely useless. I had two cards transfered from egg. They lasted 4 days before I cancelled them. Didn't help that I couldn't understand a fking word the call centre staff said.

I had the Egg cards 10+ years. Yes I had a few issues, but always sorted quickly.

My Egg card transferred to Barclaycard with no problems. I only use it for online/paypal etc so that if I get scammed I don't get my main card stopped the day before going to the South of France for 2 weeks (happened some years back).

For me the best bit is the Egg account manager site, saves me entering numerous usernames & passwords to access all my other online financial stuff - I hope Barclaycard keep it going...

Update:

I sent in a complaint and received an Email back saying it would be dealt with in 5-7 working days.

By "dealt with" they meant they sent a letter saying it would be "dealt with" by 3rd Jan 2012.

Needless to say I don't think a month is very reasonable so I emailed again and I received an Automated reply saying

"Although we aim to resolve all queries within 24 hours, we are experiencing a high volume of messages at the moment so please allow 3 working days for a response."

So because so many people are complaining (presumably about delays) there will be further delays !

On a positive note, my cashback is now showing - with an additional 10-14£ that I wasn't expecting. I did get some big refunds back, that might be showing as payments rather than refunds and that might be why.

My statements are still not showing - but I called them and they are sending me paper statement for the last 21 months. Way more than I ever had access to with Egg online.

They also seem quite flexible with credit limits and transferring limits between different Barclaycards (to make better use of any features/offers they have available).

So while I still don't like how much harder it is to call them (as compared to Egg), they seem to be getting their act together to a certain extent.

It gets better...

I decided to call.

And was told nothng has happened and calling again until 40 days has passed (FSA maximum apparently) is pointless.

Another one from Egg here. Had my Egg card for years, not problems. Had a Barclaycard a month and so far three sales calls, a call from me asking them to stop then another call two hours later, asking me to confirm security details and discuss my account. I don't think so.

Update should anyone care,

Whilst it has taken them over 45 days to respond.

Today I received £35 credit to my account and they advised me that they hadn't closed my account as that would have meant I lost my cashback.

So very slow but a good result in the end.
