First accident, non fault - questions (205 GTi)
Discussion
Got front end damage to my 205 GTi and an engineer/assessor is coming out next week to look at it (J plate 1.6 GTi, 115k)
The following damage is obvious and I understand there could be more:
Both headlights, indicators and fog/driving lights, lower valance, bumper & mountings, numberplate, slam panel, radiator (dropped its coolant).
I'd like it to be repaired and I understand this is unlikely and will probably be written off. Anything I can do to increase it's chances of not being put down? Is there any truth in the rumour that if it's a non fault accident I have the right to repair if I insist?
Incidentally, recent work includes (ie, last 8 months):
New front wheel bearings (both)
Fuel line replaced (the difficult one which needs the tank dropped)
New alternator
Cam belt kit
New water pump
Whaddaya reckon
?

Not sure if you can insist on it being repaired...But....The following damage is obvious and I understand there could be more:

?As long as you can buy it back after the settlement, then almost all of the required parts are bolt on.
(Many moons ago I was a Peugeot Partsman and we used to sell shedloads of front end stuff for 205's)

sure you cant fit a whiplash claim in the accident too?
get some extra money off the claim and buy the car back.
or fake someover injury and sue the hell out of the other partys insurance.
its the done thing nowadays.....ya know

Nah. Not going to be party to that - although it was also suggested by a regularly employed truck driver who I had a conversation with afterwards.get some extra money off the claim and buy the car back.

Thanks - suppose I just have to wait and see what their offer is next week and hope there isn't any significant hidden damage. As long as you can buy it back after the settlement, then almost all of the required parts are bolt on.

I would start finding some similar examples and prices to prepare just in case. Make him a coffee and see if he'll give you a ballpark figure before he goes off to write his report.
Already started to trawl the usual sites looking for good candidates to put forward in my defence...and maybe a shot of something in the coffee to put him in a good mood.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
