MG ZR any good?
Discussion
Very good from my experience owned my mk2 facelift model (One to go for interior is far nicer) for 7 months and 8k miles had no issues. 1.4 engine is a peach revs freely to 7k and pretty quick for its capacity. Also if looked after reliable the head-gasket can go but if get one with the update double layer one fitted should have no issues at all unless you thrash it from cold which is stupid. In terms of handling again very good sticks to the road like glue and a real laugh to drive can be a bit jiggly sometimes over bumps buts that's the price you pay for good handling I suppose. Picked mine up for £1450 on an 05 60k miles with the headgasket (first time) and cambelt just being changed I really don't think you can get a better cheap run about for the money that is affordable on insurance etc... I love mine any more questions let me know

Outdated, cheap and nasty interiors, some strange trim / equipment combinations (WTF were they thinking, putting wind down windows in them?!). Looks like they've crashed into a branch of Ripspeed. Fragile engines.
Does that help?
You sure none of mine had wind down windows and a few others i've been in have all been electricDoes that help?

I'm sure, yes - a girl who worked for me had one. Not sure which engine option it was. But it had electric mirrors and wind-down windows! Not that usual for Rover - my mate had an 'origami' 216GTI which had wind-down windows but an electric roof... along with half-leather seats. Bizarre. That was a cracking car, though.
The 2.0td IIRC returns similar performance to the 1.4 but with really good mpg. However its one of the cruder old diesels out there.
I've been in an 05 1.4 recently. Makes a nice noise, goes well enough for a daily although the inside is a bit dated and a bit barryboyesque.
That said, I'd have a ZT anyday, expecially a CDTi.

I really loved the look and options, etc of the ZT until I drove one and found it the most insanely cramped cars I have ever driven, with zero pedal feel I've been in an 05 1.4 recently. Makes a nice noise, goes well enough for a daily although the inside is a bit dated and a bit barryboyesque.
