'Corrupt' coppers walk free on disclosure technicality
Discussion
3 people were framed for a murder.
A few years later the real murderer was caught using DNA evidence.
8 dodgy coppers have been on trial for the fit -up.
They look like ducks. They quack like ducks. They s
t like ducks.
However, it seems that some COPIES of documents that did not actually need to be disclosed were destroyed. The destruction of the copies wasn't recorded.
The defence argued that if they had destroyed copies without record, how could they rely on the documents that were disclosed being reliable.
These were copies of documents that did not need to be disclosed!
THAT SMELLS VERY VERY FISHY
Dark day for justice.

Simon Clements, the service’s reviewing lawyer, said problems were unearthed when a review of the prosecution material discovered that copies of files that had not been disclosed to the defence had been destroyed without explanation.

My feiend is a senior policeman. he has always said that there is a very very very fine line between the very "best" CID guys and the crims they chase. To be able to catch them, to a degree you need similar traits, mindset and abilities. he's uniform now as a chief inspector, but was plane clothes for years.

I have to say I disagree with that. I've worked with a few police officers I would call top quality thief-takers and they all have been straight. A DC, who has just died, was known as one of the best in my force and the chap what just about as straight as you could get. The DI who nailed Bishop for att murder is highly moral and did not have the trait of utter selfishness that is so common with offenders. As I'm typing this I've reliased that the first thief-taker I worked with was very straight. When I joined there was a strong undercurrent of corruption in CID. The Countryman Enquiry couldn't believe what they discovered. They were very much like those they were supposed to be chasing. But few had the dedication required to catch the big time villians. They were brutal and self serving in the main. If anything they were like the criminals because they were them.
I'd say the most common trait of top quality detectives is single-mindedness. Not something I'd accuse anything but a small minority of offenders of.
