Thinking, yes!!!
Not for the first time, but put off by not having yet obtained a clear picture.
I know it will not be Le Mans/Spa-like, because of location.

I've been 4 or 5 times now and its a superb weekend. The racing is rather good with a great mix of cars and sitting in the sunshine in casino square watching Jag C types and old F1 cars rip by is something you get used to.

Know the feeling from numerous Classics at other European Circuits, but how practical is it to arrive in a Classic car, park and find a hotel near the action and still have petrol money left to drive home without breaking-the-bank.

Depends on your bank!

I've not been but done a bit of research earlier this year. If you want a hotel near the action you're looking at 6-700+ a night from memory.

Would you drive that distance in the XK?

Distance not really a problem. Fortunately my XK seems to be a real gem. Drove down to Avignon for a long weekend recently and did the return trip in one day without an issue.
Also booked on the 2012 Alpine North Tour with Pistonhead Nirvana. Thinks: I am an idiot!!!
Remember these Jaguars were good for 100mph cruising back in the 1950's, and won the 1951 and 1953 Le Mans 24hr.

Indeed, I would love to do something like that in my Aston I guess I'd take a couple of days to drive down. Sounds fun.biggrin

p.s. 600 miles in one day is one hell of a schlep.

For that you can sail to Santander, drive through the Pyrenees, stop at the Promenade des Anglais in Nice ( 15 mins to Monaco by Train) and drive back via the Milau Bridge to Calais

PM me if you want to know how it's done!

I,m going for the first time, leaving Calais on the Sat 5th May spending 1 night in Wildersbach France, then on to Brescia 2 nights (visit Mille Milia Museum),on to Maranello 1 night, then
onto Beaulieu Sur Mer 7 nights. Will use train for Monaco and have Grandstand A1 seats on Sat 13th(end of start /finish straight) and Grandstand B (casino square) for the Sunday. We leave for Arles
on the Tuesday for 3 nights, last night in Lyon and then home.
Managed to get the race tickets quite easily ,£35 and £50 per person ,and all the Hotels are quite reasonable and include parking on site,I cannot wait

I'm sure you can! The man questioned Monaco hotels though. Personally I'm a lazy bugger who wants stuff on my door step.

Monaco Marriott was about EUR 300 in 2010
