First off, I am not into football at all. I don't watch it or pay much attention to it.

OK one thing that I dont understand is how much influence a new manager can have. There can be a team of players losing game after game, the manager gets sacked and subsequently replaced and the team starts to win again.

How can this be so? How can the manager have such a dramatic impact?

They have to raise their game to stay in the team. A new manager will want to bring in his own players so they have to impress him or they will be shipped out.

If the new manager is a big name the players will respect him and perform better. In the case of my club, who would you rather play for?

Roy Hodgson or Kenny Dalglish?

Probably by stopping the bunch of feckless overpaid poofters from pissing it up every night in China White's or wherever they go and get down to some proper training.

Well that's what I'd do anyway.

Not hard to tell I'm not exactly a 'fan' either, is it wink

rofl Pigskill, this thread has all the hallmarks of a 'do you hate football?' thread. So to pour petrol on the embers......another thing I've often pondered is when a football 'fan' talked about their team they use the terms 'we' and 'us' all the time;

"...Cor..you should have seen US last night - We murdered Chelsea/wherever...."

Why is that? Can't think that the Manager would have noticed you there (or not if you watched it on the box). biggrin

Because secretly we all harbour the mild fantasy that one day we will be asked to play for the team and score the winning goal. A bit like you hoping that one day you'll get to partake in some of the internet porn you watch while the rest of us are at football matches wink

It's the psychological change that does it.

Football is a much more psychological game than many give credit for. This is why wearing a certain shirt number or performing rituals as the players come onto the pitch are so important.

When a new manager comes in it gives the players a feeling of confidence which helps them to raise their game.

I'd love to agree Mars, unfortunately I can't get porn where I live - it's illegal. (Yes I have tried)

BTW - my OH reckons it's much more fun doing it than watching it....tend to agree really wink

Because all footballer players are the best in the world

So you can't blame the players so sack the manager

England would win the world cup every year if they had the correct manager

Any fool can see this

Some managers just cannot motivate the team neither. There will be no belief in the dressing room. No sense of a team within all the players.
New manager comes in, maybe well respected, has won a few cups with another team or has promoted a side before = all players believe they can do well.

Two points. Firsty, those new managers that come ot a club and win their first 3, 4 or 5 games are often sacked within 2 months after losing their next 15 matches. Most successful managers will lose / draw their first 5 - 10 matches as they try to implement their own style, rather than thik "oo this is easy, they're all playing well, so I'll just leave it alone".

I've altered your question below to relate to business as a whole, can you answer this?

First off, I am not into work stuff at all. I don't work or pay much attention to it.

OK one thing that I don't understand is how much influence a new CEO can have. There can be a business failing month / year after month / year, the CEO gets sacked and subsequently replaced and the business starts to succeed again.

How can this be so? How can the CEO have such a dramatic impact?
