Swirl pot remove

Whats the correct procedure to empty the coolant etc,so i can remove the swirl pot,ideally going to put the coolant back as its only been replaced a couple of months.

Syphon from the swirl pot, then syphon from down the rad bleed hole to drain as much coolant as possible.

I drain that way as a matter of course any way as I find it far less messy than getting coolant all over the engine / chassis / body / floor...
