As a buyer, when is the best time of year to buy a car?

I've always thought that Xmas would be a good time to buy as sellers would be keen to sell in order to get cash in for Xmas.

Fair assumption?

Spoken like a true petrolhead. smile

My assumption is, due to the time of year, sellers may be more inclined to do a deal.

Agreed, bought an mx5 about a fortnight ago as out of the spring summer so negotiated my way through to a price I was happy with.

Have had the roof down, the heater up and the back end out for the last fortnight. Lovely in cold crisp sunshine...

So absolutely agree about buying "out of season", but would not recommend buying a 4x4 just now for the same reasons....

According to Glass's Guide, 4x4's peaked last january, but are now on the rise again from a summer low.

The best time of year to buy a car is when you need it.

There are pros and cons to every season. Whilst there are generally fewer buyers about in December for example, there are fewer cars for sale too. Also its harder to get a good look at a car during december as its usually dark and or raining.
