We've all seen the films - someone gets shot and murdered in their car and slouches over the steering wheel, causing the horn to go off.

The question is - how long will a horn go off for? And what causes it to work/stop working?

If you check your spam e-mail, you should be able to find something that will help!
If not just have a quiet word with your GP.

Lets say the horn is 12v 50w so that will draw 4.16A, a typical battery will provide 80A/H so up to 20hrs .

Do you think the driver circuit might overheat before the battery goes flat?

I've found that after about 10 minutes they become asthmatic and overheat (don't ask how I know this!!)

You can't end a post like that.

I'm guessing you have heard one in an accident or something, but I'd rather believe you provide overclocking services to italians who want louder horns for their traffic jams.

Apparently in Singapore due to the very much nanny state and their obsession with keeping things tidy and peaceful there is some strange laws that all cars must comply with in case of someone slumping across the steering wheel.

The first law is that if the horn is held down for more then 60 seconds it automatically switches off and the hazards start flashing

The second law is a bit more extreme

After an hour of the horn button being held down the airbag is set off as it is assumed that the person inside is dead or asleep. So setting off the airbag will wake up anyone who is asleep or if they are dead it will sit them upright again in the seat making it look neater then a dead person slumped across the steering wheel.

Apparently the Eu is considering bringing in the same regulations with a trial period in the UK only as we are RHD drive cars the same as singapore so most of the systems are already in the cars. Those of you with VAGCOM should be able to find the option to activate this feature.

I can't remember exactly what they are specced to work at but they get really bloody hot and eventually burn out when used for prolonged periods.

Horn performance/endurance testing is quite an important thing and apparently drives the techies crazy with the repeated operation. hehe

I'll see if I can find out how long they should last in one prolonged blast.
