Does anyone know where i can park for free in Chester? I know there's a tesco in the centre with a car park, don't mind spending a fiver in tesco if it means the car park is sorted?

Google "Whipcord Lane", it's a quiet street near the city centre. It offers free, on-street parking during the day, with easy access to the city centre via the canal footpaths / city walls.

If it is after 3PM you can park in most of the multi stories for free if not, the try going into handbridge and park up between the suspension bridge and the Meadows smile

You will be lucky to find a space on Whipcord Lane unless you arrive before 7.30/8.00am!

West Street just off Hoole lane usually has a couple of parking spaces as it's students down there in a couple of houses, so they don't all have cars. It's 5 min walk from the centre.

What you doing in Chester? That's where I am from.

Xmas shopping, i'm from Nantwich. Chester is about the same distance for me as Hanley, and i know where i'd rather spend time!

It is still free by the river on The Groves? Not lived in Chester for about 10 years.

A fellow dabber! biggrin

Your best bet is to pay £3 for the all day parking at the Northgate arena, its a huge car park so less chance of parking dings.

Wifey tells me 2hrs free if you spend £10, 3hrs free for £25. After that it's £1.50hr.

From Nantwich, Park & Ride at Boughton would normally be a good option but will even busier than normal at this time of year and could well be full if you're not there pretty early.

There's a newish car park on the site of the old stables on the corner of St Martins Way and Watergate Street (have a look on Google Earth) and I *think* that's a fiver a day. If that fails you can park on the Racecourse itself.

ETA: Think Northgate Arena mentioned above is a fiver and that's often full during the week.

Thanks, shouldn't need more than 2 hours. Just need to go into about 4 or 5 shops. However the all day parking for £3 at Northgate Arena seems tempting if i think i'll be longer.

Tesco should work then. Mrs DL says don't bother getting there after 10AM.

Be aware the new traffic lights at the A51/A55/M53 roundabout have made the morning rush hour traffic even worse and the even if you cut through the lanes to the A41, the junction at Caldy Valley (where Chester Sainsbury's is) has been completely messed up too.

I'm 99% sure its only £3.

And I have only ever seen it busy on race days. But always able to get a spot.

Hang on, Are you talking about the small carpark? Or the huge one attached behind it?

What the hell are they up to with the sodding trafic lights! All they have done is made it worse!

The big one. I'm just the messenger, but until a few weeks ago, the missus used to work in the middle of Chester, and goes shopping / lunching there at least a couple of days per week. However she (like most women) thinks this kind of question is bizzare - things cost whatever they cost, if it was tenner she'd just pay it without a second thought.

I am too. She, on the other hand, is attempting to rescue the UK from the current downturn. smile

Apparently the parking attendants at Tesco are pretty lenient on time-keeping if you smile at them! yikes
