320 v 240 your views please,

I am looking to buy an CLK around 7 years old , I do not want diesel and do not want a kompressor. So I have a choice of the above engine sizes , I have a C class 240 at the moment, is the 320 a massive improvement ? And why do Mercedes have two engines of similar size ?

Amazingly the 240 is heavier on fuel than the 320. The 240 is very, very smooth, though, but possibly a bit gutless by todays standards.
