Viper gets room at New York show

It's NY in April not Detroit in January for new Dodge Viper

An all-new Viper had been expected at the Detroit motor show in January, but it seems that we might not see it until the New York show in April.

That's what SRT boss Ralph Gilles has told the Viper Club of America, at least.

Now, you could read this news in two ways: either the next Viper is rather behind schedule and is going to miss its 'hometown' show, or it's keen to use the increasing international importance of the NY show to help push its new muscle car to a more global audience.

As for what we'll actually see when the new car is revealed, well details are pretty scant, but it seems that under the bonnet (or rather hood) will be an 8.7-litre V10 with around 600hp. But while the Viper has traditionally been known for somewhat agricultural muscle car dynamics, Dodge wants to pull in a broader audience with this one, so we can also expect rather more in the way of driver aids.

To that end the Viper, like the Camaro, Corvette and even Ford Mustang is part of a new wave of American cars out to prove they can do more than straight-line hero stuff by setting ever quicker 'ring laps. And Porsche thought it had its hands full with Nissan.

In before the retards with their hp per litre nonsense.

But seriously, don't they already have a 600hp V8 which would be lighter and more compact?

The old V10 was based on the 360 cubic inch (5.9 litres) Chrsyler small block architechture , what the Viper needs an engine based on the latest Hemi architechture and twin plug heads. I'm willing to bet that they've at least looked at prototypes of this concept at Highland Park/Auburn Hills in Michigan.

It is a great concept - very big engine, in a fairly small car, (Relative to engine bay size.) tune it slightly, offer it for sale.

Then make a trackday version.

In Belgium that road tax would be in the region of 4k€...
I pay a bit over 2k€ for my Chim 450, so a grand in the UK for a Viper isn't too bad at all!

it wouldnt be a grand for the first year since it would be an import, they wont be sold new direct from Chrysler UK so no big road tax to pay, just £215 per year
