Just about to buy some snow chains and looking at the ADAC test this year the Pewag Servo ones seem to be best, but are they worth the extra £50? I've never driven with chains so hoping someone can offer some decent advice with them?

I'm off to Austria on a road trip this winter so I've got winter tyres fitted already.

Thanks

The important thing is to check that they are compatible with your vehicle - many cars present clearance issues because of wheel size or esr/abs sensors. have a look at a website like www.roofbox.co.uk and it should be able to tell you what fits. If you can't fit a conventional chain, you should be able to fit a "ladder-type" that sits on the face of the tyre only, like a Magg-Trak or Spykes-Spyder. These unfortunately cost a fair bit more.

With snowchains, you get what you pay for. I have a set of Weissenfell Clack and Go (brand new and for sale in fact - but I don't think they'll fit your car) - cheapo chains will last about 5 minutes.

That's what I'm thinking & I trust the ADAC reviews on them too. My tyres are 195/65r15 with most of the issues people have seem to be 225+ widths etc. I'll be checking the manual tonight before I buy them to double check.
