Nick Bowes took a knife to the curfew band so he could stay at a pal's 21st party in Alness, Easter Ross.

But it's thought the 18-year-old slipped, plunging it into his chest and severing a main artery.

Rescuers battled to save the bleeding teenager after partygoers dialled 999.
I've been spending too much time on here, as I saw the 'promising young footballer' line and immediately thought of PH.

But local councillor Carolyn Wilson paid tribute to football fan Nick who once played for local side Tain.

That article is genius - using his mum's illness to 'excuse' the fact he has a tag, then not bothering to question why he might have been carrying a knife, or why the other party goers thought it was a good idea to let him attempt it in the first place (unless the assumption is he took it from the kitchen of the house without anyone else being involved, although surely that would be easy to verify?).

A late but worthy entry for this year's Darwins.

It's a big miss to go from your ankle to your chest. I can imagine how he did it though, trying to lever upwards with knife to go through it, then it slipped and bang. I've punched myself in the face before while working on my car and pulling on a spanner.

Killed himself while trying to remove an ankle tag. OK an unfortunate accident.
Killed himself by stabbing himself in the chest while trying to cut off an ankle tag. a definite Darwin award

Doesn't really say what he did, so it's hard to know what to think about this story. Probably "meh".

He might have been wearing one of the new "collar tag devices" and put it on back to front

Imagine you've got a tag on your ankle. Sit on chair, put ankle on knee of other leg. Lean forward to mess about with the tag. Ankle is then pretty close to chest, about a foot away. I can see exactly how the accident happened, knife under tag and him trying to pull the knife through the strap, slip, stab, die.
The thing is though, if he hadn't been a crim in the first place he wouldn've have had the tag. You're not supposed to carry a knife. You're not supposed to take the tag off. So I don't really care.

But it's a start smile I'm quite glad that the education system doesn't encourage the learning of common sense to these cretins hehe
