Mad/Interesting engine conversions

Just emailing back and forth with a mate about that Ferrari crash in Japan and getting a V12 engine on the cheap to shove in a boat. Not that we'd actually do it, I've got enough trouble with the V6 already in there and no money!

I was wondering what madly-engined things you've seen.

My email to him:

I am of the opinion that you can fit any engine to any vehicle. Especially if you’re an Englishman.

Also In Italy I saw a Citroen 2CV van with (I think) a V10 engine in.

ETA - And I believe that example was more of a "shell conversion". I.e they put a transit shell on a XJ220 chassis and running gear, not an XJ220 lump in the back of a transit.

There was the "beast" which was a merlin spitfire engine surrounded by a mock capri body, the guy who built it was sued by rolls royce for using the spirit of ecstacy.

I have also seen a Lotus elite at castle coombe some years ago with 2 motorbike engines in it (not sure of the type) but it showed everything a clean set of heels and i think it broke a track record that day.

As to ferrari engines in speed boats, the old lump that lamborghini used in the countach used to be the powerboaters weapon of choice for many years.

The old rover V8 has been shoehorned into just about anything with wheels.

which was actually a Renault (the engine out of the '94 Williams).

Courtesy of the original development team actually. Was used as a powertrain mule as it had the same wheelbase. A quote from Octane magazine:
