So, a group of students have decided to "occupy" my university's office. They do have a valid point about protecting lecturer's jobs, but as far as I can see, most of the lecturers (that I have anyway, and I'm sure many other students would say the same about their lecturers) do more than a good enough job that letting them go would be a stupid idea, and I'd imagine that the University knows this, so is it just a case of students being too lazy to go and actually do some work? After all (unless they're Scottish and get their fees paid for), we're paying £2k a year to study, would it not be a good idea to do that rather than sit in the University Office all day?

I know it's a bit different to the Occupy Wall Street, and Occupy London protests, which IMO were people complaining Capitalism doesn't work simply because they had no desire to get off their arses and earn money for themselves. Fair enough, some people (most bankers, for example) don't deserve to have massive bonuses when they're on the receiving end of taxpayer bailouts and all that, but there's no reason to hate the rich simply because they've worked hard and are reaping the rewards when others just sit around expecting money to fall into their laps.

Students in protesting about something that happens to be a fad at the time shocker.

Students have been protesting for years. This is just the latest thing to protest about. CND, Greenpeace, environmentalism, and now the occupy thing. Just ignore them, and they will be protesting something else next week.

The local news interviewed some professional protesters in Brighton yesterday and they were quite miffed because their 'proper' protest camp had been taken over by the homeless, druggies and general wasters. Their leader was quite put-out and said they will probably have to close up and start protesting somewhere else. biggrin
