6 character number plates, registered in 2001?!
Discussion
Hi ph.
I'm looking at a car today, which has a 6 character’s within its registration, the vendor states that the car was reregistered like that in 2001. ( Although it is still a X reg).
But I’m just a little confused as to why it's like that, as opposed to the standard 7 character number plate.
Can anyone help me out/ put my mind at rest?

Thats what i thought...He's saying that the car was registered like that...
I'm trying to keep a open mind, but i wouldent mind some solid facts on the whole thing, because it's majorly putting me off.
(And the car is very clean, and i want to leave a deposit today, as long as this werid reg thing isent a problem!)

Thanks alot guys!
I'm sure i've seen other 6 character plates starting with x over the years. (Which i beleved to be the initial registered plate)
Did they only do this for 'x' reg, 2001 plates before the swop over?
(Don't think i've seen a 6 character 'y' reg).
I had Y23 GTR on retention incase i got a datsun (23 is ni san in japanese) I'm sure i've seen other 6 character plates starting with x over the years. (Which i beleved to be the initial registered plate)

Still can't see what the problem is
2001 saw three different registration pre-fixes, X, Y and 51.
If it is an X reg like you say, it could have been registered with 1, 2 or 3 numbers after the X. You state that it is X** ABC, which is perfectly legal, and correct for a 2001 car registered up to February 28th. Y plates came in March 1st 2001.
