living with a facelift xfr
Discussion
Took delivery of a new xfr in italian racing red a month ago and wow what a car, immense power, great sound, superb handling for such a large car, well smitten.Traded in a 4 month old new xj 3.0d portfolio but have to say i felt like i was 70 and big the car is flaming huge and mine was a standard wheelbase model.Xfr is not as nicely finished inside but still excellent,if any of you guys are sitting on the fence thinking of buying do it you wont go wrong but make sure you get big discount as these cars drop like stones.Took car to london weekend and returned 27mpg which i thought was very good for a v8.

drop like stones is nothing compared to what you must have lost on a 4 month old XJ!
I am off Jags at the moment after being monumentally stung with a launch XF in 2008 with a fault list as tall as the Blackpool tower. I am sure they have figured out how to build them now though enjoy.

I had the same experience with a very early XF. When my memory of its crapness fades I'm sure I'll get another. Used facelift XFR in '13 for £30k? I hope so..Why are you surprised at a 40% loss in 4 months on a car of say 70k? just the VAT is 20% of that and you would never get that back. Anyone selling a car so quickly after buying should be prepared to bend over and take it. Cost of making a poor decision im afraid. Out of interest what was the problem with the XJ?
I bought an 'old' model XFR (let's call it the 'classic'
) back in September and have to agree with f430hunter...absolutely awesome machine. My only complaint was that it was bit too quiet but thats the nature of the beast I guess.
I say 'was' because, after 6 weeks I sold it to buy my new XKR. Luckily I bought my XFR at 18-months old for under £40k so the loss wasn't on the same level as selling a new XJ (but still far too much to lose in 5 weeks!). Anyway, my contribution to this thread is to highlight the deal I got on the XKR which will surely show the potential discount available on an expensive Jag....
12% discount was the starting point....the dealer offered this straight and was widely available when shopping around. Not enough.
I then got £2k more than 'book' value for my XFR. Not enough.
The dealer then wet to Jaguar for additional support and got £2k off them. Not enough.
They went back to Jaguar and, as long as I registered the car in November their contribution would increase to £4k. Done!
All in all, this 'discount', if you include my over allowance on the XFR, turned a £91k XKR (it had £10k's worth of options, most importantly the sports exhaust and Dynamic pack options giving mine the same chassis/suspension/sound as the XKR-S without having that cars' droopy front-end styling and worth every single penny) into a £73k XKR and, as this discount is applied to the pre-vat cost it equates to a 20% discount.
Despite this, I probably still lost another £20k driving it off the forecourt

hi guys the loss on the xj was unacceptable,my range rover sport i lost only 12k in 2 years of motoring and 19k mileage this i was delighted with,my post was to warn potential buyers the xj is not a favoured car by jaguar dealers when it comes to taking them back.So any potentetial buyers make sure your getting a great deal.

Palm all, get a pic up ASAP! So why didn't you go for an XKR first time around.

Palmball - put up some pics - that XKR sounds magnificent. Did you get the performance seats?
See my new thread with full write up and pictures. http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...
Yes I did get the performance seats and they're are insanely good - they pretty changed my opinion on the entire car and sold it to me (one of the reasons I never previously considered an XKR and the XFR seats are much better than the standard XKR's)!
