School turns heating off to ‘save planet’...

Has the indoctrination really spread as far as this?
Sadly, I already know the answer

Furious parents vented their anger at a headteacher who turned off his school's heating on one of the coldest days of the year.
Pupils at Ansford Academy in Castle Cary, Somerset, were forced to grip their pens through thick gloves and wear their coats and hats in class as temperatures dropped to 1C.
The school's headmaster, Rob Benzie, shut down the radiators as an experiment to show students how the school could cut its carbon footprint.
The worrying thing is, if you look past the Daily Soovy hysteria and at some of the comments, the idea was apparently thought up by some of the pupils and 'Jumper Day' was a great success to some!Pupils at Ansford Academy in Castle Cary, Somerset, were forced to grip their pens through thick gloves and wear their coats and hats in class as temperatures dropped to 1C.

My daughter goes to Ansford, Year 10, and attended 'Jumper Day'. She has just read this article and finds it ridiculous. She had a good day and is looking forward to the next one. During the summer they even turn off all the electricity to really understand the dependency we all have on powered devices.
To quote Ripley... "Did I.Q.s just drop sharply while I was away?"Has the indoctrination really spread as far as this?

The pupils would have been too terrified to disagree, since any dissent would have meant their bodies exploding.Article said:

Not too far off the mark...My step-son moaned that he had an exam on global warming. I told him to write what he thought (bought him Christopher Booker's book for 'balance') Alas, he said he'd get a 'fail' if he didn't write 'the gospel according to Gaia'

So what did you do?
My son asked me not to intervene. - Not because he was fearful or wimpy about it all, but rather because the extreme nature of the teachers response actually cemented his own view that the "science" of MMGW was just so much bunkum. He also said that the incident had made several of his friends and class mates question their own previously unquestioning acceptance of the "facts", and some had started to look into things in material outside of that provided by the school. I was rather proud of him for that. TheHeretic said:
Well,i'd be straight down to the headmasters office, and the school board meeting, asking why a logically thought out essay was disregarded based on agenda, or words to that effect.

Schools have (or should have) documented guidance on sanctions/penalties. (Home School Agreements, "behaviour pyramids"). I would be shocked if any of my children had ANY sanction applied for disagreeing with a viewpoint (let alone detention)
Admittedly my son's school is quite a good school - when a student gets detention they normally right to the parent setting out why he has got it.

If you don't mind me saying, it's a crap school if they tolerate extremist teachers.Countdown said:
OTOH
Helps the students understand how much it costs to heat schools
Maybe they realise how much Mummy & Daddy spend on gas & Electricity
Maybe they try and save money by turning the thermostat down and wearing a jumper instead.
Everybody saves money

My feelings exactly.Helps the students understand how much it costs to heat schools

Everybody saves money

Its a total non-story blown out of all proportion by nasty gutter press
just the headline
Children discover its cold when heating switched off!!!
Doesn't sell many papers
We did exactly the same at our school almost 30 years ago. It was called the miners strike
And as to this

Unfortunately he's learnt another lesson - that the state creates it's own truth and that dissension will not be tolerated
