Anyone have a view on how long the s/absorbers last under normal driving conditions? Anyone renewed with anything different than stock - for road use?

I've racked up over 40,000 miles so far on the original Z51s with no problems.

Well they changed the 2001 rear Z06 shocks for slightly better damped and softer units so the car could get the power down better out of the corners and it paid dividends in the lap times they achieved. They only do the FE4 suspension on the Z06 and it gets a lot of praise whereas the stock C5 tends to be softer.

What makes up the FE4? Is it shocks and sway bar or is there other stuff? Is it easy to retrofit to Coupe.

???

And - in 2001 there was the Z51 option which I didn't get, thinking I could always upgrade later. This was , I think, just a bigger rear sway bar. Anyone know how I would go about getting it?

From Google:

The FE4 suspension helps make Z06 an excellent track performer while still delivering ride comfort suitable for everyday use.
The improvements are:
· 30 mm front stabilizer bar
· 23.6 mm rear stabilizer bar
· 10 percent stiffer rear transverse leaf spring than on Z51

However, this artricle makes it clear it's a little more complex with different shock valving.

No reason you can't retrofit. This is about upgrading from the stock FE1 to the Z51.

too complicated for me,

Heres what a well known website says, is this just spiel or am i gonna notice the difference?

Bilstein:
For the "Sport" minded driver these shocks are designed to push a car's suspension to its maximum performance. Shocks are 20% stiffer, and are compatible to use with special springs, anti-sway bars or any other suspension upgrades
