Afternoon everybody, I was just wondering who to go to get a new exhaust for my SL60?

The car has just had a full service and it was noted that the from the centre section back there is a bit of corrosion on it. It appears MB no longer makes these parts and the local exhaust people can't get hold of them either.

Would it be prudent to get a stainless system made up? There must be somebody who can supply them as I think it is the same part as that fitted to the SL500.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Hello ,
I'd be surprised if the factory couldn't source you the part you need . Failing that , Haywood and Scott stainless steel exhaust manufacturer appear well regarded . There are a number of similar bespoke stainless steel exhaust manufacturers listed in the Classic car press - most of whom will , almost certainly , be cheaper than an OE part.

Thanks Michael, the car was serviced by MB and they said they couldn't source the parts even after doing some searching for me.

I will have a look at Haywood and Scott and see what they can do for me.

Cheers again.

It's a pleasure . My C36 has an original (stainless) system , which , should it ever need replacing , cost a fortune from MB . I've got an R129 (just a lowly 300-24!) too , so I'd be interested to hear how you get on . In any event , it should liberate that lovely V8 ! M

I have a C36 system apart from the backbox in my garage which you can have for beer money.

You can get aftermarket exhausts for them. I have an AMG stainless system from the header pipes back on my 500 and it sounds effin' gorgeous! No idea of price as it was on when I got the car but definitely worth the money whatever it is!

Tell us more!

I fitted a new one from MB about 18 months ago.

Ben , very kind of you , and if you lived a bit nearer , I'd take you up on it . Stick it on ebay , and you may be closer to Champagne cash rather than just beer ! M

Is it really different to a standard C-class system ? I sold the back box for a fair bit because of the stainless AMG tips I guess, point being it was going to be fitted to a standard car. How would I know it was a stainless system?
