I've been having some health problems recently and ive recently been told by the opticans that i need glasses. I have a astigmatism in both eyes but its only slight in one of them.

I spend alot of time working on my netbook and laptop with my job and and i often have my eyes about 10 inches away from the screen.
My vision is pixelated like white noise and its worse when its dark or im looking at large white/black surfaces.Ive been told im short sighted because looking at small print is not a problem.

What i would like to know is could my prolonged computer use have caused the short sighted and fuzzy vision?

Also if i didn't wear my glasses that i have been prescribed would my vision get worse?

My prescription;

Right
Sph:0.25 Cyl:1.50 Axis:104

Left
Sph:0.50 Cyl:1.00 Axis:80

Any help greatly appreciated.

Ive heard that relying on your glasses all the time and make your eyes worse?

and glasses can really suit people but in my case they dont suit my shape face at all.

I don't think I've ever seen someone that has a face not suitable for glasses.

What shape is your head?!

Glasses always look weird on someone who hasn't worn them before. All I can advise is go to a decent optician where the staff give honest feedback on whether frames look good or not - in my experience most highstreet outfits take the "nod and smile" approach and will sell you whatever you take an interest in rather than steering you towards the styles that best suit you.

It's not just them suiting me tho it's getting use to having them on my face, trying not to sctrach them
and the general hassle of wearing glasses etc.

I've heard different things about weraing them,

Like not wearing them will make your eyes worse or wearing them all the time can make your eyes worse by
them always relying on the glasses.

Just after some clarity really.

The optician can tailor your prescription to your use, by making it stronger or weaker to keep your eyes working. If you talk to them about how you will be using them they can best advise.

If you are worried about how glasses look on you, why not start with some contact lenses and only use your glasses when you first get up / before bed?

The shortsightedness in that precription hardly looks worth bothering with - the -0.5 in one eye is about the minimum, you probably won't see any difference in the other eye at all.

The astigmatism on the other hand is what you are probably having trouble with. It's not a strong one, and it's possible you've always had it. But as we age the ability to accommodate the eye problems reduces, which is probably why it has become a problem.

That old story of glasses causing your eyes to get worse is bunkum. It's likely they'll get worse if you don't wear them however.

No and no.

That is, your eyes might get worse, might even get better, but wearing glasses won't influence the prognosis either way.

Just a curious question. You started your post with the statement "I've been having some health problems recently and...." How is this relevent to the requirement for glasses.

To answer part of your question, I've been wearing glasses permenantly since I passed my driving test at 17 and found them to be a Godsend. I am short sighted and, once I started wearing them, was pleasantly surprised on how much easier it was to pick out people I know in the far corners of pubs, and at a distance out in the street.

If you want to look like you aren't wearing glasses, try some rimless ones. You can get a pair made up from these on-line places like Specky Four Eyes for about £50.

Pixelated?
It's called visual snow, I suffer from it as well. It's not pixelation, more like static noise on an untuned TV
