Following from the MIL thread, I want to try and prevent water getting in and causing havoc and try and waterproof as many connectors as I can, though I can't trace down where its getting in...

I'm thinking, if I can identify a connector which carries the cabling for the sensors that are showing up as faults, I might be able to narrow down the water ingress..

I can't seem to find anything in the wiring diagrams, and even more strangely some of the connectors dont even exist...

So, does anyone know if there is a common connector for lambda 1&2, t-pot 1&2 and possible the water temp control input??? From my fumbling around (in the dark after work) I'm beginning to think some of the sensors are wired directly into the ECU? ie. t-pots go from ECU straight to the connector on top of the t-pot itself?

My other thought is maybe only one sensor is getting wet but throwing off signals for other sensors (just like if you pop a fuse for the wipers it will set off the hazards + starter etc)

Most of the sensors wire directly into the wiring harness which goes to the ECU (unless you have a car with the earlier harness connector under the expansion tank). The exception being the lambda sensors which have a connector that sits down one either side of the bell housing. Have you checked those for water ingress?

No, these I will check on the weekend.. Just trying to narrow things down so I know where to start before I start tearing things apart...

I can see the lambda connector with a torch for the even lambda sensor (I'm guessing bank 2?) and it looks dry..but I will have a better root around on the weekend rather than after work in the dark frown

When I had problems with mine, the connectors were dry on the outside, but when I undid them they were full of water. I presume the outside dries with the heat from the engine but leaves the inside full.

The cables/connectors on my car were cable-tied to a crossmember directly above the centre of the gearbox, pressumably to minimise the chance of water ingress.
