RE: Time for tea? Screaming old-school Skyline
Friday 9th December 2011

So Jonny Smith had a good time at the NISMO festival. And it got us digging around for retro Skyline stuff. And then we found this.
Time for tea? Screaming old-school Skyline
Not sold on the whole retro Nissan thing? Turn this up loud...

This is a lap round Fuji, the track that hosted the NISMO festival, aboard a late 60s 2000 GT-R and it proves, if you needed reminding, that the whole GT-R/Skyline thing goes back a lot further than R34s, Gran Turismo and Porsche-baiting Nurburgring laps.
We'll not say any more, other than that you need to turn this up loud. Very loud. Yes, it'll annoy anyone else in the room/building. But just do it.

Loved the video.
The driver was clearly having great fun - driving. I get the impression while epically fast, modern cars have steerers rather than drivers.
Gan san is an older driver, but still damn good, he has driven all sorts and made regular appearances on BestMotoring (before it was axed.. The driver was clearly having great fun - driving. I get the impression while epically fast, modern cars have steerers rather than drivers.

Nice, the Japanese car now officially has a nostalgia about it, who would have imagined back in the seventies or early eighties getting misty eyed over Datsuns !
Look of Pug 305 from the front I thought.
I thought it looked a bit 504!Look of Pug 305 from the front I thought.
The Japanese car thing is really big, isn't it. It seems every other car on retro rides is Japanese or VAG. Japan built some exciting cars then and this is one of them, but for the most part their appeal is lost on me.
Watching this reinforces how sanitised cars built after 1990 are though. I think this is why modern racing does not interest me - I'd happily watch this Datsun go round the track.
