Chaps,

Quick question - I have had a private plate on retention for a while. The DVLA sent me a letter in late October telling me my V778 document was due to expire on 18th November. For a myriad of reasons I've forgotten to extend this for another year, and have only just dug out the letter.

Have I lost this plate now, or will DVLA extend it another year if I ring up tomorrow and pay over the phone?

Many thanks.

Call them and beg! It worked for me once.
Good luck!

I've read that you can often still get it back if you explain your situation.
Remember to lie a lot, out of the country for a while or something.

Definitely call AND write to them. When I was on my gap year I had one expire. I explained it in writing after a phonecall with a very pleasant woman who put a note on my file.

You should be ok.

Thanks chaps - I will do some "constructive" chatting with DVLA.

Cheers!

By the time I realised mine had expired (by 6 months) I had managed to misplace the V778.
Wrote them a letter with a brief explanation, enclosed the £25 cheque and they back dated the renewal.

Just send it off to extend it with an explaining letter.
They're normally very good as long as you include the relevant fee.
