Im desperate to take the new car on a trackday, and see that Gold Track are having one up at Silverstone on Sunday, but the weather is not looking that promising... Rain is forecast.

Would it be a mistake to take the car (997.1 GT3) out in this?
What is it like in the wet?

I'll be there in an Elise. Was there last Saturday too and was one of the first out, finding it pretty challenging (esp. Stowe) after overnight rain. You'll have to take it easy!

I've only done the old GP circuit and strangely it was wet all three times! I'd say it was one of the best tracks to do in the wet. Wide and mostly forgiving. There is the odd place where you want to be conservative in the wet (e.g. the exit of woodcote) but an instructor will point these out to you. IIRC you get a free instruction slot with GT if it's your first time. Pay for another couple of slots and you'll really enjoy yourself. I think you'll find a 911 is a lot better in the wet than you've ever imagined.

I'll be there - Black 964RS - not much tread left, hoping for rain smile

GT3's are fine in the wet - just carefully choose which places you push and which you play safe. I'd be happy to do a few laps with you.

Hope the owner of the White/blue 996 GT3 that met the tyre wall down at Vale is OK.

Was a tad slippy but not as bad as last week, I thought. I think I'm getting the hang of not lifting off when it starts to go pear-shaped!

It's an Evo. I can't think that I've seen one spin before but it looks like he touched the rumble strip.

Actually he nearly saved it - then did a splendid double pirouette!

You were well quick, but you're lucky you didn't merge with the white 996 GT3 at Aintree!
Didn't do well yesterday - just not enough confidence to push it - didn't even break 3 minutes. I'm only just learning how to cope with the car when it starts to go, and it tried its best on a few occasions, although my Pirellis do seem to cope remarkably well.

That sounds like doing exceptionally well to me. Understanding when you are just below the limit and driving accordingly is a skill many spend decades never mastering.
