Winter project - bonnet mods
Discussion
Well, as winter is now upon us and the Sagaris is off the road, I'm embarking on the last modification of the year.
My current inspection bonnet is the early fixed type, so I'm replacing it with one of the later ones with a twist - I'm getting the flaps to be controlled by an actuator.
The idea is similar to what TVR were going to do but never finished due to the weight of the actuator verses it's power (or so I believe).
The hinges on the flaps will be linked to a temperature sensor that will open or close the flaps dependent on the engine temperature and how much air needs to come in. There will also be a manual control which will allow the flaps to be opened by hand.
Hopefully the work will be done by spring and I can let people know what it is like. Worse case scenario is I just fall back to the existing bonnet and no harm done.
The modeling and installation work is being done by RP, so should be a good result.
Pics will follow when all the work is done as usual.

Anyone going for single-piece, front opening bonnet like on Jasons Red Bull Blue Sag ? The two piece bonnet is a pain imho so would like the convenience of a traditional bonnet.... I'd still like to keep the same look tho, that is with the gap all round the inspection part...
As regards the actuators moving the flaps, the top one has hardly any room to move because of the airbox and fuel rail.

RP already have a design for that as well. I looked into it but decided I preferred the two piece bonnet. As regards the actuators moving the flaps, the top one has hardly any room to move because of the airbox and fuel rail.
The key is the size of the actuators. These ones are small but very powerful.

I saw the Lambo Verdi Green Sag they had done - all was good except they had filled in the gap around the inspection bonnet and main bonnet, and you could see the tramline all the way round. Probably just needed re-filling/sanding/painting but i personally would leave the gap there... Have to have a chat with 'em.braders said:
Any body have any idear the cost for one piece bonnet, i would like also for the inpection piece to be see through tinted any thoughts chaps?
Ring S&D or RP a ring - they should be able to give you a quote. They have both done things on the bonnet before, but you would need to discuss with them your requirements I would guess.alex_gray255 said:

The guys at the factory told me back in 2005 when they had to replace my bonnet (came off on the way to Le mans) that its was heat from the exhaust that was the main problem destroying the motor/activator My current inspection bonnet is the early fixed type, so I'm replacing it with one of the later ones with a twist - I'm getting the flaps to be controlled by an actuator.

This was mounted to the underside of the bonnet, if you look closely you will see the 4 mounting holes they used and which where fitted in production.Funky said:
Sounds really interesting alex, can't wait to see how it turns out! Will your car be in rp in january? Would love to have alook at all the bits and pieces you've done with it
Yes, it should be there in January/Feb sometime. Not exactly sure when though... Depends on the weather
