Being a coach. That'll be 500,000 Km's too.

Same applies to wagons. Ours go at about 3yrs/500,000k's as thats when things start to go wrong...

They get sold on and will probably do that another 2 or 3 times!

Saw a long distance coach here in Korea recently which was on 853,000 kms. Plenty of the public buses drive round all day, everyday and are on 500k-700k kms!

I can't imagine the true mileages of some of the old trucks I saw in Africa. I guess their odometers aren't working any more to tell us hehe

Remember hearing on the news that the old double Decker buses that were withdrawn from Birmingham had covered 1,000,000+ miles. Not sure how true this is but some of them were on a y reg (the old one with the age determining letter at the end) and in daily service for upto 27ish years. Good old Gardner diesel engines.

I always laugh at eco warriors say we should ditch cars for busses.

That's done 1,000,000 miles with its 12000cc diesel engine, chugging around all day, most of the time being empty....

The very hallmark of efficiency - more miles on the same vehicle means less production and disposal costs.

And 500k on a commercial vehicle is nothing. Their wheels spend more time turning than not.
A local 406 Diesel taxi had 350k miles on it - I thought that that WAS impressive.

Yeah, but a lot of these will be like Trigger's Brush!! 18 new engines, 4 new gearboxes, countless new hubs/bearing. Look after your Bus.........................

There was a chap in the paper the other day with a 95 Audi A6 that had clocked up 500k with no major mechanical problems and was still going strong.

I was in a cab about 2 years ago, 406 on a V plate, which was on 550k.

Guy said he needed to retire it due to it being 10 years old, the maximum for a cab. Still seemed to run well enough

There was a 2004 730d on eBay a few months ago with 400,000 on the clock biggrin

Not surprised that buses and stuff do mental miles though - don't HGVs do mental miles before they're retired too?

The usual high milers that I spot are taxis.

Just back from Germany and a taxi ride in a VW Touran that was showing 598,000, but the highest i've seen was a Merc 208 minibus with about 880,000 on.

A mate is running an ex taxi Skoda Superb that has done more than 300k and it still drives well!
