It's got to be over 6 months since they changed the layout of this roundabout and almost every day I see a near accident. It's the bit where you come off the M3 and get down to the black dam roundabout and go straight over. The left hand lane is left only and middle lane now goes across the roundabout using lane 1.
What you get is people in lane 1 tying to go straight over and nearly hitting the cars that are in that lane. The cars in the correct middle lane aren't checking their rear left blind spot when they move over, which by rights they shouldn't have to.
It's a mixture of people not being familiar with the road layout and people skipping the queue down the middle lane. Most people who cut across here then go into the business area where they work so they're obviously getting in the wrong lane deliberately. I've also seen the same people doing it time after time. I just can't believe that they would want to do something so dangerous when it doesn't really save you that much time.
If they did drive into the side of someone the insurers would obviously see it was their fault as they're in the wrong lane and the road marking clearly say its left only.
Has anyone seen a crash here? I see near misses almost everyday so I'd be amazed if there hasn't been one yet.

Not seen an accident but seen a few on the way to the spot you mention.
However if it is stop start you can comedown in that inside lane as long as you pull in before the lights.

It does annoy me as well but thats life !

Whats just as bad is the roundabout near the Audi / Chineham - left lane chineham/A33 and right is A33 and the number of times someone going round on the inside lane has nearly taken someone out trying cut into to chineham

Basingstoke is pants for traffic queues everyday !

Yeah absolutely nothing wrong with doing that. However, if they can't change lane in time they should be prepared to turn left up the dual carriageway and do a U'ey at the roundabout, not risk it by going straight on at a left only.
All seems pointless though because when that middle lane is backed up it doesn't actually take that long to get to the roundabout.

I do that roundabout everyday but I'm always in the right hand lane to go straight over. I can't say that I noticed a change in lanes on the left but I certainly haven't seen any accidents there or noticed it as a popular troublespot.

The left lane left turn change seems to have improved the traffic throughput. The southbound queue at J6 on the M3 is much shorter now in my experience. I turn left at Black Dam and it's much quicker in the left lane as well now.
