I've just purchased a new LG LED tv, and want to buy a media player (MKV) and external hard drive to play blu ray films on.

After hearing about the 'Sumvision Cyclone Micro 2+' and seeing it in action, I'm impressed. Apart from the slight judder seen when camera panning happens. Is that the player or the HDD? But for 26 quid, you can't complain. Although I'm happy to pay a bit more for a player that has no motion judder.

Does anyone know of any other decent media players that play MKV files, that won't cost the earth but have good performance?

Thanks
Cad

Will your tv not just play media direct from an external hdd?

I have tried with a memory stick, but I think the file formats I had on it were not supported by my tv. So getting a mate to put an MKV onto it to see if it works.

In the 'properties' box, it just said 'windows media' I think. Never gave the actual .avi or .mpeg listing.

Am I right in think though, if the HDD is connected to the tv via USB (and not HDMI as with the media player), will it not be 1080p?

Doubt it, the decoding will be done by the tv not the media player and then the audio and video transferred. If the tv supports the format of the file and it's hd then it will remain hd.

The WDTV Live is a good, cheap, little media streaming type box. If you haven't already got something sorted.
