Treacs wasn't eating or drinking or being his usual self today (didn't wake us up early either) and got worse in the day.

He's now been admitted to the vets with gut stasis. Poor little mite looked so small and fragile this afternoon. Fingers crossed he'll be back on his paws tomorrow.

The house feels so empty without the buns frown (coco is keeping him company tonight)

Oh no hope he's ok LGF, the house would be quiet without our little horror.

One of ours had this and managed to pull through, the key is getting to the vets as soon as you see something is wrong. Good luck and all the best

The vet says he should be home tomorrow as is eating a little now he isn't in pain.

He had me worried for a while and am just glad I took him in while he was still relatively OK.

Am v.impressed with the vet who insisted Coco came in too to keep him company and stop her getting anxious. Even the estimated bill isn't too bad (just over £200)

I have put the clean washing in a basket on the floor without fear of chewing tonight! Every cloud eh?

Fingers crossed that Treacle continues to have a speedy recovery. Any idea what may have triggered the stasis?

Central heating kicking in causing them to moult in large amounts. Treacs loves to groom and I obviously didn't ge enough off when I do it. So a massive furball basically.

hopefully they will be back soon

I can see why the vet wanted both of them in as mine get a bit panicky if they cant see each other

Coco suffers from anxiety and will go nuts if she can't see treacle. If he creeps into another room and she doesn't notice she'll go into full panic mode.

I expect they are snuggled up together. Am waiting for a phonecall this morning to see how he is.

Feel like I've failed as an owner for not seeing it sooner.

Please don't feel that. You got him seen the same day as the problem started. Believe me that is the sign of a good bunny mummy! You know what is likely to have caused it and it can hopefully be avoided in future (sometimes easier said than done though)

It's natural to feel guilt. I am right now with my old cat as I keep thinking by trying to look in his mouth I triggered another problem frown

Hope you get your bunnies home today smile

Let us know how Treacle is. Stasis is potentially very serious but picking it up quickly is the best you can do, apart from getting the rabbit to the vets, of course.

Apparently no poo or eating so force feeding critical care. He might come home tonight if the poo situation is better.

I just want my bunny frown

Have they managed to get him on a drip?

They said he'd be given IV fluids, metacam, something beginning with c I think and critical care. He is weeing though.

I feel so terribly guilty.. He had hairy poo for a day or so but they get that now and again and I thought nothing of it- just something that happens when they are in moult.

Had the exact problem a few years ago, and my regu lar vets was on holiday, so I ended up seeing a locum who was not familiar with GS. Lost the bunny very quickly, but since found out that there are a number of treatments that coukd have been given at the time.

I don't think house bunnies know just how to gauge seasons and their moulting as good as outdoors bunnies.

if you ever notice him grinding his teeth this is a sure sign that rabbit is in pain so prompty visit to vets, also all rabbits need help with grooming as they cannot vomit the furballs and they have to pass through the rabbit and sometimes it can result in blockages which are seriously not good

In a lot of situations the hairball is a result of the gut stasis but not the cause. Vets have to be careful when diagnosing this problem.

One of his teeth is a little long but they don't think it would have been bad enough to cause it. He did take a chunk out of coco a few days ago- I had to pull tufts out of his mouth.

For the time being I just want him home and then we'll have a change of diet to v hard fibrous things to get the toothy peg down. Also am going to buy a furminator.
