Hoping this is a quickish one!

A few weeks ago the solanoid in my starter motor starting sticking. Nothing new there, a common problem I had on my old 500 when the starter motor started to pack in.

It's been fine until yesterday when it stuck again. Took about 10 attempts until it freed itself and turned the engine over. This time however it wouldn't catch. The closest it got was a brief splutter and smoke before it died. I suspect I had well and truly flooded it by then so left it until this morning.

Starter fired straight away but still the engine wont catch. A hint of a splutter but then nothing more. There was a knock or some other non descript noise that I don't usually notice when starting but hard to say what it could have been other than the starter? The battery is new and ctek charged all the time. The fuel pump primes fine and I get a strong smell of fuel after the failed start attempts. The starter cranks the engine fine. All other electrics seem fine, it just wont fire up! Best case is it just a borked starter? I've never had it where it cranks and doesn't work. Any ideas? frown

Sounds like it is still flooded. It wont be the starter as you say the engine is turning over. The starter will either work or not.

You could pull the plugs and let everything dry out and then try again, or a common method out of this problem is to crank the engine with your right foot to the floor to get air through and keep on until it fires. I have never had this problem personally but apparently you will have to crank it for a good minute or so, so you will need a fully charged battery.
