How much do people think your car is worth?

I imagine there might be some confusion about the current value of older cars that once were quite high priced.. So has anyone ever commented on how much your car cost you, or how much they thought it is worth?
I had just polished my '92 Eunos, about to put it away in the Shed and someone came along and commented that it looks like a really nice car, and their guess was that it must be £10k+
I paid £1300 for it, and people often expect it to be much higher!
How about those cheap BMWs etc?

Nearly always more than their car. A woman at my old place of work said we pay you too much as I got into my E36 323, she got into a 2010 Yaris.
Non petrolheads think my skyline is worth 10k upwards, and these people tend to have cars that are only a couple of years old, but are a bit bland.

To the non-petrolheads, a convertible "big" BMW is worth its weight in gold. The ones who know what an M3 is but don't know how much they cost seem to think it's worth about £20,000 - and of course, the real petrolheads comment that the E46 M3s have depreciated a hell of a lot. In fact I even saw one for sale t'other day for £7,000 - and it was in good nick!
The Mini tends to confuse people, they see it's old and think it's probably not worth much, but then Mr Bean had one and it's a "movie car" so it must be worth a lot. You can almost see some people trying to work it out before ending up overpricing it greatly.

I have non-petrolhead friends who thought my '98 Chimaera was worth a lot more than the £8k I paid for it. It does go the other way. A few years ago I had a nice leather & air con Corrado VR6 in excellent condition with several grands worth of Schrick engine bits. The number of non-car people that thought it was an old VW worth about £250...

Found the same with the 530i - people equate it with a far higher value than it is worth now.That said, try buying one and not spending £2k getting it right in the first year of ownership.
On the rare occasion I go to work in my Audi S4 I've had people come Out with things like you're on too much money, or how do you afford that?
It's worth less than most of the modern rep mobiles and boring box on wheels that they're paying for on hp every month, and it's all paid for!
