If for example you kissed another car, and there is no damage. Do you still have to report it?

Supermarket scrape - what will happen next?
At the local supermarket nephew hit a car next to him while reversing out. It is a bumper to bumper scrape. Only exchange/scrape of paint. No dents on either cars. The other car is old and had it's fair share of scrapes/dents. He assumed another one won't make any difference. Looking around he saw no-one and simply drove off.

After a week he received a letter from the police. It seems like a standard letter stating they intend to prosecute etc. An officer will be contacting him regarding the incident.

Any idea what will happen? Will he go to court? Any fines/points on his licence?

He passed his test over a year ago and did not know that he should at least leave his details under the windscreen wiper or inform the customer service etc

That kind of cock is why my mondeo is the state it is.

While I've had it the following have 'appeared' without so much as a note.

1) Softball sized dent in the wing (fk knows what could have done it)
2) Broken rear bumper (must have made a mess of 'their' car with my tow bar).
3) Broken tail light and scuffed bumper (a blue car in a supermarket car park from the paint left behind).
4) Umpteen door scuffs and scrapes.

Of course that's ignoring the idiot in a vectra who couldn't park and hit it while I was sat in the car, the range rover who drove into it while I was stationary with the nose protruding (so I could see) while waiting for a gap to pull out and the woman at work who slammed her door into mine while I was sat in the car!

I really wonder how anyone has a decent car as a do everything only car, I certainly wouldn't want one as I'd forever be worried about it.

Try owning a van, people assume it belongs to a company so is fair game to be abused!

My rule is never to park next to MPVs (children cant open doors) or 4x4 as their doors being high tend to leave marks when opened

I agree with Guitartech,

He should be taken outside and shot. (preferably infront of his family)

I've accumulated several scrapes, marks and other grazes to both the front and rear bumpers of my Corrado, again thanks to these sorts of people. Yes my car my just be an "old" Volkswagen but it means the world to me, and I've found it incredibly annoying and disheartening watching the condition of my car deteriorate through no fault of my own!

Sadly it does seem to be the way of society these days - no regard for other people, or their property!

This just happened to me today and in a supermarket except I was stationary and the car in front reversed into me. I blasted my horn. He looked over his shoulder pulled into a space. I parked up close expecting at least an apology. He drove off and parked up elsewhere. I took photos and waited for him to return but got fed up waiting and left a note for him to call me and advised that I would report the incident. Probably a good job he took a while in the shop as I might have lost it if he just shrugged his shoulders.

I had a woman hit the side of my car with her door while I was sat in the car.

When she started to drive away I got out and asked if she had any intention of checking for damage or apologising.

She denied hitting my car and accused me of being abusive and threatening. Her friend who worked in the shop nearby said she would use the CCTV as evidence I was threatening her and offered to call the Police, at this the woman changed her tune for some reason and said she didn't have time for any fuss.

Reluctantly she gave me her details, but threatened to send her husband and 2 (much bigger than me sons) around to see me because of how I had spoken to her. Despite giving her my home and office address (and me living 15 minutes walk from them) I am still waiting that visit 2 years later.

The damage to my car was just a paint scrape that polished out but her attitude was appaling. Had she apologised or even checked my car I wouldn't have been at all offended as small accidents happen, but to ignore it and then deny anything had happened in the way a 5 year old who breaks his mums vase would, is typical of the selfish attitude of a lot of folk in this country.

Yes it may only be a small scrape, on an old car, but that is someone elses property and may be their pride and joy. IMO there is a fine line between those who smashed open shops and stole goods in a riot and the behaviour of those who prang parked cars and try to ignore it has happened.

Ive only ever hit a car once in a car park. Left a note on the car and the guy rang me up, thanked me for leaving the note but said pretty much fk it its a company car.

Someone scraped my current car a week or so after I got it, I was livid but nothing could be done as no one saw it and wasnt on the cameras at the supermarket.

This is why I'll never buy a nice car. I've never hit anything but I've got dents on every panel except the roof (but including the bonnet!) and I think one corner still has paint on it. If he updates that thread to say that 'his nephew' has been charged I will sign up just to laugh at the .

Loved having a Picasso courtesy car - nobody ever parked anywhere near me, ever!
