Was just wondering if there are any Chimaera owners here under 25 that would mind sharing what they pay for insurance, and with who?

I'm 21 and desperate to get a Chim, but won't be in a position to realistically think about getting one for at least six months, probably a bit more so it seems a bit pointless to start ringing around the specialist insurance companies just yet.

The cheapest I've found online from the mainstream insurers is £1600~ with Admiral, which although not astronomical is more than I'd be willing to spend on insurance... I'll be a year older when it actually comes to getting one, with another years NCB, but was hoping to hear from some owners around my age that they're paying drastically less than what I've been quoted. laugh

£1282 including breakdown cover on a Cerbera 4.2 at 21. Should be possible to get a sub £1000 quote on a Chim I would imagine?

That's what I'm hoping... The £1.6k through Admiral is pretty decent for a mainstream company I think, so hoping for a good price on a classic car policy or other specialist insurer when I actually start phoning around.

That's an amazing price for a Cerbera, though, who's it with?

O/T my young friend!

For Alex; a new job.

My 5.0 engine is totally goosed after it's stunning, (imho) performance at Snetterton.

Seems I ran it flat out with contaminated oil, (bits of metal in it!).

We live and learn.

Should have a 4.6 Tuesday if all goes to plan....................

£600 with business insurance, BUT the only place I got a good quote out of this was from MSM insurance, who took into account the fact that I had been driving classics for 5 years without claim but didnt have any 'no claims'. came out about the same if I remember rightly 6-700 FC @ 22yr old

That's with MSM, who seem to be consistently competitive for younger drivers. I spoke to a lovely lady called Diane who was fantastic throughout. Worth giving them a try.

Give the guys at Classic Line a call..

Perhaps you could look at a limited miliage policy?

I'm paying £350 for comp insurance restricted to 3000 miles a year.

If it's not a daily rag then 3000 miles is harder than you think to clock up!

I am 30 tho.. smile

If you're getting £1,600 quotes from a mainstream insurer, you should be able to do under a grand with a specialist.

Okay, it wasn't a Chim, but I was 24 when I first got my S3. I paid £225 a year with Hagerty, but I believe they have since stopped insuring TVRs and/or young drivers?

I'm currently with Manning for the Chim ('bout £480 for a 28 year old in London with a recent claim) and A-Plan Thatcham for the 924 (all of £219).

It's going to be tricky to get a specialist policy at 21, but you'll find the premium is unbelievably low if you do. It may well not be that much more to insure, say, a Cerb.

I'm 25 and pay around £750 fullcomp through Adrian Flux.
Also used to insure my Lotus Elise through them back when I was 19.

Thanks for all the help, guys. Feeling a little more optimistic about it now. biggrin

I'll be 22 (or 23 if things don't go quite to plan... but it will happen) when it comes to getting it, which helps. Also, scratch what I said about getting quoted £1600... it was actually £1430, which is pretty much the same I paid when I first got my MX5. spin

As for the Cerb, as fantastic as they are I don't think I'm quite ready to ditch open top motoring just yet. Oh, and the small matter of jumping from 125bhp to what, 350? I think a Chim first will be a good stepping stone. Then one day in the distant future, a Tuscan. evil

Try Matt (I think) at Henderson Taylor - I paid £520ish this year when I was 25 for my 4.0. Not sure if they insure under 25's though, but worth a try.

I see Mannings have been mentioned and I found their rate very good, I went with Peter S Taylor though (web site is www.bishopcalway.co.uk though), they were incredible. I'm 33 but their approach was so refreshing (gave price almost immediately without all the inside leg measurements and other ste the others ask before letting you down) I had to go with them

WELL worth a call.

Good luck anyway
Sam
