2005 VAG 2.0 tdi (140) altenator query

If the pulley is sheared off can you replace this or is it a case of binning the broken altenator and fitting a completely new unit?

Also, is there much difference between the Lucas and Bosch part?

i would guess if its the shaft gone then its a new unit!!! lucas and bosch I would guess the lucas is a re man unit? should be fine if its the same spec fittings and elec plugs...

Its probably a free wheel pulley (sprag clutch) fitted that's broken up on that alternator, not unheard of on many cars that have these fitted nowadays, I have changed more of these than i care to remember BMW, Renault,Peugeot for example, you would need something like this for removal/refitting though pulley should look like this and your pulley will look like this if you have Basically its a one way clutch that allows the alternator to free-wheel when necessary, to say they are ste is an under statement
