Guys,

Any recommendations on garages in the Aberdeen area for getting this done. Any experiences good/bad appreciated.

I know of JD who've done work for me in the past but I'm looking for somewhere more easily to get too as we need the car every day.

Thanks

Mate, I have used AW Autotech just off King Street a fair bit recently, not the cheapest but excellent work.

Try the main dealer? I passed by Dunfermline VW today and they have a banner out saying cambelt kits fitted for £239.

£239, if it's correct, is a cracking price.

I had my mk5 gti cambelt and water pump done at Bavaria Autowerke in Hucheon St for £385 a few months ago. At the time it was £399 through VW but Bavaria were happy to price match.

I've no other experience of thier work but the car has been fine since and the young lady behind the reception desk was rather nice. What more could you want?!

I'm afraid I wouldn't touch BAW with a stolen cock.

AW Autowerk are a reasonable shout I reckon.

Without wishing to slander BAW is it widely known that they should be avoided? Any particular reason? Curious purely as I will need a service soon and not being from the area I've little local knowledge.

Had dealings with them in the past and found favour with neither their prices or their knowledge. All personal opinion of course.

Thanks mate, cracking price, VW Abz quoted £300 today will try and see if VW Abz will pricematch.

BAW - Whether true or not I have no experience but I have also heard bad things from lots of people.

AW - tried but quoted more than the main dealer, so not happening.

Sorry chap, must have misread the banner as I passed.

Cambelt kit is £319 all in and with a water pump is £399 all in.

Sorry

Aw ok, thats a similar price to the dealer here which isn't bad, just going to go for that as the parts have a 2yr warranty too.

Same dealer network, John Clark though that is an VW offer and not an dealership offer. You'll get a free healthcheck, a courtesy car (if you ask) and a cup of tea or coffee too.

The £319/£399 pricing is a fixed price at all VW dealers

@ Daz4m: make sure you get the waterpump done at the same time. It would save incurring the labour charges of 2-250 again if the waterpump did go pop in the future...

Yeah I've read about that on other forums, do they not tend to last the distance, what is the situation? VW told me they would check the pump for me and make a recommendation on whether it needed changing?

WP's seem more fragile on later Audi cars (not so much VW's), but the job is done for next to no labour, so it just seemed like good sense to me...
