Used E92 M3 DCT Pricing?
Discussion
I am looking around and the pricing of cars on the market does not make sense. I see 2010 cars marketed at £39k and 2009 models at £37k and 2008 at £30k. The same old 2010 and 2009 cars have been on the market for months and clearly are not shifting but yet prices are so high?! What are dealers expecting, the price of M3’s to shoot up in the new year?
I am looking to buy in late March/early april and trying to work out what is going on with car prices and what are good deals and what are not!
Any ideas why the price are not falling?

Can't give you an answer as to why prices look a bit strange but don't disagree they do! Some of the variations between what appear to be similar cars is just bizarre to me; I've commented about 1M pricing on another thread and I've had half an eye on E92 335i prices and they seem inconsistent as well (albeit most of the nearly new ones have now disappeared so I assume they've either sold or been moved-on via auctions!). In terms of the E92 M3 I think patience is the name of the game; there are quite a few on the AUC website at the moment and my suspicion is that there's a log-jam waiting to break. Come late March or early April my guess is that you'll see 2009 cars with decent spec and lowish mileage for £30k or perhaps even a bit less in main dealers; however, just my opinion and only time will tell!
One of the issues are many traders bought their m3s 2-3 months or more ago. Winter means low turnover. These traders probably bought at 34-35k and are selling for 39-40k. Well the issues is these 2009 cars are prices almost the same as the 2010 cars. Only 1k in it at times. So these traders with their 2009 cars need to drop the price of their cars down to 35k to sell for 33k. Now they will be making a loss!
Traders know m3s don't shift so they offer s
te money on m3 px's. However when they advertise their competition have 2009 cars up at 39k. So, they just put their cars up for 37k.
That Target for a buyer is 33k so depending on the dealer the buyer goes to his deal may vary by 1-5k I reckon.
Maybe I am talking s

Maybe I am talking s
te...FWIW I was offered a 09 DCT coupe, fully loaded, 30k on the clock for a smidge under 31k a few weeks back, this was through a big franchised dealer, I would have taken it had they not been so miserly on the PX for my M5, less than half what I paid for it two years ago! (and from the same garage)
As someone who's been watching DCT M3 prices for a while, anything under 33k with a half decent spec and reasonable miles seems to move on fairly quickly, 35k and above seem to linger around for longer, especially if you're going down the finance route - you can get almost as good as, if not better deals on a new car via someone like AVS who've been offering DCT coupes with 19' wheels for around £550 over 24 months with six months up front.

The prices are dropping. There's an AUC M3 saloon that I was looking at in September/October. An "11" plate and was up for £49,995 at the time. Now? Still there at £43,995, so they have marked that one down £6k in less than four months. There are lots of others going the same way, and as observed, mostly the ones above £40k aren't shifting....

That is a huge drop! I suppose it is a 2011 car and these will lose £10k plus in the first year. I notice that the 2010 and 2009 cars are not really losing money from their asking price and also they just are not shifting! I am waiting for dealers to be realistic and drop their prices.. this will encourage others to drop values to a realistic level!

This one looks sensibly priced to me. OK its a saloon which is not everyones' cup of tea but IMHO is THE one to have. It's a '58 but has the newer iDrive and a good spec.

You think so? There aren't as many saloons around (and hence it's harder to get a feel for values) but if I'm honest I think the price for a 2008 car should be starting with a 2 not a 3. Having said that, the car in question is no longer on the AUC website and if it sold for somewhere near the asking price I'm obviously wrong! http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...

As some of you know, I am a Manager for a large BMW dealer, and can give you a bit more insight.
Some very sound comments on here. Spot on that book values have dropped by a few thousand in the
last few months. So a dealer who bought a car in to stock in October will have paid around £2K more than
a dealer who brings a car in to stock today. The older car will be marked up for more than the
recent car. Also some dealer groups have a stocking policy that means once the car approaches
the limit (for some this is 60 days and others its 90 days) the Manager reduces the car to clear
as he will have to trade it out to another dealer at the book price - and that might mean a £3K loss.
Some dealers dont have a stocking policy and leave the price of their car so high that it looks crazy
but the hope is that some poor sole will walk into it as they dont use the internet to search.
Regarding newer cars - these may be ex-demos and owe the dealer more than if they had bought a
car in from a private person - so again prices can vary wildely. Also spec and colour play a big
part - EDC, 19" alloys and M-DCT will be worth more than any manual car or saloon car (great IMHO
but the public dont buy into the saloon). Big dealer groups like mine have an internet tool that can
find every BMW for sale and then profile its age, spec and how long its been in stock and filter by price so that we can price our cars competitively - that way we know exactly how many cars are for sale and where to pitch our price - the good news is that this means the dealers start to drive prices down in a bid to be the cheapest and attract customers. Amazingly some small dealers have cars that have sat in stock for up to a year. Personally (and this is not a plug as you dont know where i work) I would only buy a used BMW from a large group where they turn there stock over quickly - who wants a car that has been warmed up for 5 mins a
week and stood on a pitch for a year!
New car deals are currently supported by BMW for £5250 and some dealers would be willing to top this up to a little over £10K....so any nearly new cars have to be really cheap to appeal. Anything over £45K will struggle to compete with the new car offer.
For me anything around the £30K mark is highly sort after subject to spec price and mileage of course.

That was a insightful post Tony, cheers.
I know its not strictly DCT, but I have a manual 57 plate E92. Its quite well specced; space grey, EDC, Logic 7 hifi, adaptive & high beam assist headlights, heated seats, 19's,hi-gloss shadowline trim. 63k miles FBMWSH with a monthly warranty. Long MOT & expensive service just completed. I had it up for sale at £23k in oct/nov and had a fair amount of interest, but it didnt sell in the month I had it up for sale. I thought for the spec and age it was a fair price, but I'm going to put it back up for sale in the next week at £22k. If it doesnt sell at this price I think I will just keep it because its so much car for the money. Its dissapointing to see them go so cheap.

Looking at your model, its got 63k on the clock which may deter a few but at £22k you might be okay. Best of luck.
Personally speaking I would not be too comfortable running a high performance car with high miles. Also, the warranty price also goes up on when the car reaches a higher mileage? I am probabily wrong.
Well best of luck on your sale.
I'm looking into buying a M3 Coupe.
A number of garages have offered me similar value for my car as a trade.
From these offers I know they won't try and retail but will just pass on. So I'm guessing their money is safe in what they offer me. My question is, with that in mind what would you expect to discount (from a BMW dealer) for cars valued at say:
£26k, £28k and £30k.
Perhaps nothing but surely something if any of the posts in this topic are to go by.

Depends on a number of factors but in my experience franchised dealers often have a fair amount of play in the pricing of M cars, as an example I got 3k off my first e46 M3 and 2k off my current M5, my local Stratstone have recently sold a well specced DCT e92 coupe for over 7k off its original asking price. If your in a strong position with cash / finance in place negotiate hard and be prepared to walk away if the dealer won't bend over backwards to get your business. Its a buyers market for these kind of cars and trust me, when the boots on the other foot and you're trying to PX the e92 back into trade they'll probably offer you 4-5k short of what you feel its worth...

It's just being brave enough to ask.
If dealers were prepared to take £2k-£5k off asking price it certainly gets me looking at different markets. If my budget is £25k I was looking at cars around £26k hoping they'd knock off £1k but potentially I could be looking at cars around £28k....brave negotiating skills required.
