attention guyr ... gt2 query...
Discussion
you appear to be the man in the know re gt2's so....
i note from the porsche website that there are currently 4 gt2's for sale. some are 414bhp, some are 451 bhp.
i thought they were all 480???
please can you guide me through the maze of power of these fine cars? did older 996 gt2 have less power?
i may have grown sufficient chest hairs since my test drive to be man enough to own one...

Mk 1 GT2s ie 2001-2003 are 462bhp (about 100 or so imported)
Mk2 GT2s ie 2004 model are 482bhp (under 10 imported so far)
The OPC site is incorrectly ascribing the Turbo power to some of them, they quite often get it wrong.
All the cars for sale are Mk1s, I've not seen a Mk2 available 2nd hand, as they've only been available for about 6 mths or so.
Guy
thanks guy... another query... regarding the pccb issue. do you think the later cars ie 2002 - 2003 would be a better bet WRT disc quality issues? was the ceramic in the earlier cars of lower quality and hence more liable to errr crack? did porsche admit there was a problem with them and do something about it for the later cars?
two options i'm looking at - £81k gt2 in OPC sheffield and a £77k 450 bhp turbo at maranellos. head says go turbo, heart says go gt2 (accountant says don't be an idiot - but sod him!)

If you want practical and easy to drive, with safety features, but the Turbo X50.
If you want pure, focussed, rare and less practical, buy the GT2.
As for PCCB, there are not enough cases with enough use to know what the truth really is yet. All I know is that my 2nd set of PCCBs recently fitted are alread showing signs of degredation after only 4,000 miles.
Guy,
Just as a matter of interest, how much did porsche sting you for the replacement disks/pads ???
And when you say degradation, do you mean wear and tear, or do you mean cracks etc ???
And would this be attributed to track use ?
I have Turbo cab coming soon with PCCB, so need to know what i'm gonna be in for !!!!

Since I'd only had the car about a week, they replaced them as a 'goodwill' gesture, but said they are 'definitely not warrantied' even though they needed replacing due to surface damage and chunks missing after 9000 miles with previous owners. They said they would not consider another replacement.
The cost would have been £14,000 for a pair of disks/pads, though they have been reduced now and are about £5,000 for a pair of reconditioned discs! (Which are new rotors on existing bells)
My new discs have done 2 trackdays and I do not drive hard on track or long, typically doing only about 50/60 miles on track all day.
There's no way I'd ever pay for PCCB on a new car..........
They don't even brake any better, the only good bit is that the wheels don't need cleaning as you don't get brake dust.....!
