TV warranties - NOT John Lewis - experience?
Discussion
If you're a member, Costco are the kings of simplicity with regards to returns - they had G30s in last time I was there.
Amazon I've never had any problems returning anything, but I've never had to return anything TV sized. No idea on their warranty.
As is time honoured fashion on here, I'll recommend you something other than what you're looking for - get the GT30, having seen both side by side it was no contest for me. I'm not especially bothered by the 3D aspect, but it's notably better for 2D content than the G30 too. Worth the extra IMO.

Don't use digital direct for your warranty whatever you do or next time they phoenix you'll be f

About the gt30 vs the g30. I saw both last night in comet (great place to see loads of tellies, going elsewhere to buy) and you're right. Gt30 swept it away.
But I don't have £900. I have £600.
I also want a soundbar potentially and a stand (separate budgets for both). But that'll be for after chrimbo. Want the TV now!
Looking at the Samsung ue40d5520 and lg42lw650t too now. Any other suggestions?
We sit 7 foot from the TV, mainly TV (not hd but we've got a crt) and kids watch a lot of dvd's.
Sun plays straight onto TV (so we have to close curtains from time to time). If that's a factor? Also - good sound is important (but the wife doesn't want speakers everywhere clogging the room up - we're already tight for space). Help!?

I bought the G30 model from Richersounds with 5yr warranty for £600. That was about two months ago & love the TV. The picture quality is so good. The DVd's look almost bluray like when compared to my old HD Samsung.
I Don't how good the richersounds warranty is as i have never had to use it.

I've bought a couple of TVs and a few other bits & bobs from Richersounds recently. I haven't had to use the warranty but it seems to be an across the board 10% of the purchase price rather than the astroniomical figures quoted by the sheds. My understanding is that they have their own engineers who either repair or replace the equipment.
Well I made a decision and kept to my budget and went for a Samsun UE40D5520 in the end.
I wanted a Panny Plasma but the only model I really wanted was the 42GT30 and I couldn't stretch to that (and buy a stand, cables etc etc). So next year - if I have a good year I'll buy the 40 series Panny and put the Samsung in the spare room for the kids.
Sometimes you've just got to get on with it and make a f***ing decision!

surely you get a decent manufacturers warranty wherever you buy from? I bought my LG LCD TV from Amazon about 10 months ago, and last week my main board went. The TV just wouldn't work. I rang LG Custmoer service and gave them the serial number from a sticker no the back of my TV, and within 2 days an engineer had been to my house and fixed it free of charge! Amazing customer service! I didn't even think about going back through who i bought it from?
Nick - i think the usual manufacturer warranty is 1 year - I just wanted peace of mind in yrs 2-5. But I agree - the first year you're covered.
I actually bought the TV from John Lewis, having seen some of the feeback on various forums.
I realise there's always a better deal but I'd chase 'the better deal' for the best part of 2 weeks and all I'd done is realise a) I couldn't have the TV I wanted and the 5 yr warranty and b) no matter how hard I looked a) still wasn't achievable!
I really wanted the GT30 but when it came down to it - my budget wouldn't stretch to it. Therefore I went down a different brand as I didn't get the Panasonic I didn't want to be reminded by it everytime I watched a lesser model. Odd thoughts but there we are!
