Last week I had 126,xxx miles on the odo, now it's showing a big fat 0 every time I take the key out of the ignition. On the road it still counts the miles as per usual, albeit from 0...

It's the early style gauges ('93; black rims) with LCD odo.

What could have caused this sudden bout of amnesia, and can the original mileage be recovered without involving a visit to the gauge manufacturer (of whome the name escapes me right now - senior moment - it's the three letter acronym rather than the later Caerbont(sp?)...

Apparently there is a watch battery in the back of these which has probably died. A friend with and early Chim had the same problem. I think he changed the battery himself with not too much difficulty.
I think it would have to go to the gauge manufacture / repairer to have the mileage put back on so to speak! smile

Ah thanks - how the heck did that get past the relevant authorities; a mileage recorder that depends on a battery... not exactly tamperproof is it? wink

I think that is probably why they changed them after the early ones. I have only seen the digital odo on late 93 early 94 vehicles. The rest have had the "normal" tumbler type, which stick instead of lose the mileage! wink

They went back to digital odos on the later cars, in or around 2000.

Us "early" ones, I mean Apr '93 in my case, have tumbler style which ticks every tenth of a mile and has no "secondary" trip mileage facility!!

I thought digi style were rather later than '93??

Hope that helps?

you can do it yourself quite easily although after prising off the bezel to access the guts of the gauge you will prob need to repaint it.

It's a common cell, available for peanuts. I forget the number but supermarkets sell them....

There was a thread on PH a couple of years ago about how to reset the mileage. You need a square wave pulse generator thingy......

This probably doesn't help you but good luck anyway thumbup

If anyone manages to find this (whenever I do a search I never get any results) then it would be handy as mine went like this about a year ago ...

...damn, forgot that on my list last night! frown

Yeah - I could sent it away but the Chim's a daily driver and I'm trying to avoid taking the dash apart more than once if I can help it. Other than who to send it to that thread doesn't have any info about fixing it yourself. biggrin

The Odo has been forced up the list a little recently though due to the departure of most of the veneer from the dash backing after a particularly heavy downpour made its way into the interior ... trying to get hold of an "old" dash that I can recover at leisure (I was hoping to try to do it over Xmas) and then just swap over in one hit ... would be handy to do the odo at the same time (and I can get access to a signal generator from work no trouble).

I guess its one of those depends what TVR had in the parts bin at the time moments then!
I have the tumbler type. It hasn't stuck either (yet!) touches wood! smile
