Does anyone know of a source or web site that can trace a UK registration plate to the original vehicle it was applied to, for registrations pre 1963 plates?

This is pre letter date prefixes letters/ number or number letters eg ABC123 OR 123 ABC

It is possible to establish the district it was registsred but not the vehicle

Hmmm - not sure it helps but I've got car history details including details of plate transfers on vehicles I've owned by sending a £5 cheque to swansea and they've sent me a print out.

Crucial thing I think is it's a car I owned at the time of the request - not sure if they could help with a plate history trace

Ditto to above - send them a few quid, and get copies of all previous V5's, and copy of the original green logbook which has previous owners written in by hand, all microfiled back when everyone sent in their old log books. Cool stuff. Only tracks the car though, not the plate. If it's an elite plate or owned by someone famous, it may be detailed in some of the old books of plates that kick around.

This would be cool - I've always wanted to know the history of my plate.

I'm a proud Rochdalian (a very very rare breed these days in this once great town) and my "DK" plate dates back, as far as I can tell, to the 1930s. I've had a few old duffers comment on it. I'd really like to find the history of it.

If it was an American film, you could. There is simply nothing in American films that cannot be found in massive detail on the internet.
