I had my Chim a couple of months so it is time to sort out a few issued.

It is a 1994 car with the Battery box protruding in to the n/s/f wheel arch. The car came with 17" wheels and wider than satandard tyres. The tyre has rubbed away the part of the fibreglass in the wheelarch. I undersatnd later Chims had their battery mounted differently and a smooth curve to the wheelarch giving a bit more clearence.

I need to understand
1) How to remove the battery as it seams to be in a box down in the foot well?
2) Is it possibe to relocate the battery a little so that the wheel arch can be reshaped?

Any ideas?

You could always put the right size wheels back on.

Or move the battery to the boot, theres a number of threads on here that document doing just this, sometimes the Ecu is moved to behind the passenger eat as well, IIRC comments suggested theres sufficient slack in the loom, but I may have been drunk and made the last bit up.

fit battery in boot don't move ecu ! cut of battery bulge in arch and re matt with fibre glass now lots of room hope this helps you can run battery lead posstive in the sill so can't see it just peel bk carpet in foot well and you will see a space to run lead ! if you use a rod welding rod is good as ( won't snap and bend's ) lead will come out bye inner door latch ( flap off carpet beside seat that lifts up ) you can run run lead to boot from there undo 10 mm nuts on tank strap's (at top of tank) and behind is 17 mm chassie bolt with earth terminals this is your rear earth point ! fit battery earth there hope this helps ben a offord motor co

Thanks for the advice. I did think of going back to standard, but the front breaks have been upgraded to 305mm discs and I don't know it the standard 15" wheels would fit now.

I don`t understand why an after market wheel and tyre setup should make any difference .If the rolling radius and offset are close there should not be a problem.Wheel size should not change things..

Have you looked at your tyre size and offset..

..you forgot the J there I am afraid. I think the originals are 7J and for all whe know the 17's are 8J - you can have identical offset and rolling radius but on full lock you have the extra width to deal with. smile

Not a hope there with 305mm discs - thats quite a bot of stopping power ! (slightly jealous smile)

If you were inclined, you "might" get rear standard wheels on the front..(?)

Think I might be inclined to just relieve the material necessary for tyre clearance confused re-glass that area providing there is room before the battery clashes this would be a piece of piss wink

Had this on my Chim, couldn't work out why just on one side. Measured from door gap to arch O/side and N/side and there was an inch difference.
