I discovered today that 2 of the tyres on my old mans sl have bad bulges in the inner tyre walls. Now the set were replaced about 12 months ago and have only covered around 8k miles.

They were quite expensive and a good make (Goodyear). To say that he's a bit annoyed about having to replace them again is a bit of an understatement.

It seems a bit odd to me that 2 of a set of 4 should fail in the same place/way in such a short space of time?

Could this be a manufacturing fault?
Would it be worth complaining to Goodyear ?

Refer to whoever fitted them, who may refer back to their supplier/the manufacturer.

However, what side of 12 months ago may be very important in the outcome.

It's a no brained really? What you got to loose apart from being told no, worse case.

I'll have a look in the morning and see what model they are. That way at least anyone who has them can check there's

I'm not expecting to get anything from them but worth a try though. Not very impressive from a big name brand tyre costing £250+.

Always preferred Pirelli or toyo my self.

Inner tyre wall damage is quite common nowadays - those speed bumps that you can "straddle" being the major culprit. I bet there are a lot of people running round with this damage who aren't aware as they cant see it.

SLs are a heavy car (almost 2 tonnes) and this exact issue with inner sidewalls is something I'm very careful about with those style humps.

However nothing to lose in having the tyres checked.

Very strange, two Goodyear Eagles on the rear of my M5 developed inner side wall bulges after 10 months of ownership a year ago............

I don't remember ever seeing a successful claim against a tyre for sidewall damage in the 4 years I was in tyre garages.

Also check the manufacture date of the tyres.

Probably impact damage that has fractured the carcass cords. By far the most common complaint with regards to accidental damages on tyres.

You can send them back for examination if you like. However, Goodyear/Dunlop have shut up shop in the UK now so their tyres will be sent to Germany for examination. That could take some time...
