im hopefully moving to spain and i want to take my geep
so i need/want to switch to left hand drive ,has anybody done this ,
I did once give an owner a list of what was required to swap one over when they wanted to take their Jago to Spain.
It is possible but you need to be prepared to do a bit of work.
apart from the obvious is there any major probs like the exhaust , its a x-flow motor will the column clear it?
sorry i fprgot this bit,ive been offered a 1600x-flow
bored out to 1800 for £200 ,seem o.k.?
If it's been done properly, the pistons alone are worth that. Any guarantee that it's a thick-wall block because an 85mm bore is a full 4mm more than standard.
Good Luck !!!
Ian
Re the exhaust.
You will probably just need to do a similar thing to how the OHC motor exhausts are sorted to clear the steering column on the right hand drive Jago's ie a carefully bit of fabrication to bend the pipe around the column.
i would also check insurance ..... the spaniards dont seem that keen to insure kit cars ... mine is down there on a ninety day green card. Unless you have found some, if so plaese let me know
Cheers
Robbie
havent enquired bout insurance yet, just want to get the conversion sorted first.
does techsec or anyone know if i will have to get a new crossmember to suit rack or will the rhd one do ?
I am almost cetain you will need a different cross member or a very good conversion on the current one as the steering rack mounts are different sizes. The one by the main "box" of the rack is wider then the one which holds the passenger side of the rack.
