Ok, this might seem an odd post (well no odder than my animal sex topic a few months back), but lately I've wondered if my tongue is too big for my mouth.

When talking, I feel like the sides are catching on my teeth quite badly and it causes me to have difficulty in pronouncing words, and I also bite my tongue often when eating as it seems too wide for my teeth area. Also when playing sport and taking a knock, I usually bite it when hitting the ground as it's simply too wide irked

So....

Anyone else have this difficulty? I did a google search for natural tongue sizes but it didn't give any results apart from people sticking their tongues out (which all appeared smaller than mine btw), and I can't really search for 'enlarged tongue' as I'm not sure if what I have is normal laugh

Cheers for any advice!

Low muscle tone could do that, do you trip/fall etc a lot generally?

Grind your teeth at night ? Can result in stuff you mention.

Or do you have a very crowded, tight lower arch (the U shaped of your teeth - is it of a wider radius, or more conical) ?

Have you tried sucking on a Preparation H suppository?

(That was a joke in case you weren't sure but I've always wondered if it would shrink a tongue.)

I think the U shape is more V shaped. When looking at my gumshield, it flares out quite a lot as it reaches the back edges, however the gumshield of my friend is a lot more U shaped and doesn't have the same V shape that mine seems to have.

I don't grind my teeth thankfully, it's one thing that's not wrong with me laugh

The V shape could be causing your tongue to feel a little bigger - midway from back to front.

If you really feel that uncomfortable, why not see your dentist - everything is most likely to be normal.

Thanks, I seem to be biting it more at the back of my mouth strangely, I'll see a dentist / doctor and see what they say. It's mainly an issue for when I am talking as I find that words are not always coming out as clearly as I'd want them to so it's hitting my confidence a bit when having conversation frown Have had this for a while though (since secondary school) so might be just the way I am !

Cheers for the help smile

I wouldn't worry.....it's very normal.

Grab a pair of scissors and just trim the sides. They're 'cut to size', you must of got missed out in the maternity ward mate.

You know the problem I have with threads like this is that when someone books in with this kind of
problem at 0430h on a Sunday morning all I can imagine is having a selection of PHer's in the
consulting room with me telling the patient these exact things. Obviously I have to take the patient
seriously wink
But I am assuming the OP is not having a anphylaxic reaction causing his tongue to swell and he is
not having problems breathing etc...
