Hey folks,

I've just got a new job and once I have finished my probation I'll get a 5.5K car allowance. I think this roughly works out at £300 a month after tax (My basic will be £27K).

I don't really want anything flash or exciting as I have a MKI MX5 and a MKII Golf GTI track car already. The only limitation as to what I can get I believe is it has to have 4 seats or more. As I don't want to max my budget I was thinking something derv and capable of pulling the Golf on a trailer would be ideal. Therefore a freelander TD4 at the £5-6K bracket seems to fit the bill but I have no idea about these things. Sadly I have no savings of any worth to throw into a purchase so it'll be bank loan time.

Anyone got any opinions (stupid question on here lol)

We had a couple of Freelanders - the later mk1 TD4 we had was great. We didn't have any issues with that over 4 years, unlike the earlier petrol which was terrible!

This must mean the promotion you were 'going for' is now the promotion you have got?

Congratulations dude!

Indeed! Well chuffed. Although this whole car allowance stuff is more of a pain than a joy.

If someone offers you the best Freelander 1.8 petrol at a really cheap price, punch him hard then run for miles to get away.

TD4 are mint though.

I thought as much for the petrol ones. TBH there are only 2 K series cars I would ever buy. A Rover 200 BRM and a Lotus Elise.
