Well here is a question that has no doubt been posted on here before but i will ask it again. I Was the lucky owner of a R32 GTS with about 550 BHP a few years ago. And loved every bit of the acceleration it gave out. My mate has never owned a car with more than 200 BHP but have been cars like 172's,106 GTI. He prefers the handling of cars and dose not have the power bug at all. Where i chase cars with big BHP as i love the feeling of that surge of power only big BHP car can give. What side of the fence are you on ?

?

ETA: I'm probably on the handling side of the fence. You get more opportunity to use it without going 'too fast'. However, both wouldn't hurt.

Nice biglaugh

My last 2 cars were a Peugeot 106 Rallye S1 and a BMW 323i Coupe.
The Pug was a hoot down a country lane I can see any more than 120bhp being undrivable tbh, it was tiresome in town and on motorways too.
The BMW was great at it all and the acceleration was addictive.

That was only 170bhp! how the hell you lot keep your licence with 200+ amazes me wink

Handel wins every time hehe

Personally, I like both. Big power but light weight, hence TVR's, AC Cobra's, Supercharged Elise's etc are my bag.

That said, there is something rather compelling by big brawny brutes like Holden Club Sports, Vauxhall VXR's etc.

Handel for me. I love big power (the Beethovans of the car world?) but in general, I find less power, but not too little, to be more rewarding. More time with your foot flat on the floor before you get to really silly speeds.

I find I get bored/used to big power. The 500bhp cars at work are a good laugh, but not as much fun as going sideways or a car like a Caterham or Elise.

Handling for sure.

Drifting about in a Caterham is probably the best laugh I've had in any car.

There are no common cars with big power and handling. The next best thing is a decent power-to-weight and handling.
I'm a handling man so a slow Caterham is just right...

I hate to use the standard cliché but the F40 had great balance in that department IMO.
470 odd bhp and supremely responsive handling. The only drawbacks being, minimal (really minimal) creature comforts and very laggy off-boost performance.

So within reason, I think you can have both, so long as you have the bravery.

I've seen at least 3 F40's up close. Is that not common enough? hehe

On the other hand, you may have a point. smile
