Ex-F1 Driver JJ Lehto just sent to prison....
Discussion
Sad for everybody concerned...
Got badly drunk and drove his powerboat into a bridge in a short cut canal between two lakes in Finland. He walked away but his best mate died.
He claimed he was a passenger and his mate was driving. Police checked the GPS and turned out the boat was doing 79km/h in a 5km/h zone just before impact..(!!) and forensics proved he was the driver.
Been a big public court case in Finland and he just got sentenced to 2.5 years in prison.
Great career - F1, won Le Mans twice, etc etc
Shame.

Not a shame for the judge or the judicial system I hope - except for the fact that the sentence should perhaps have been sterner.
Racing drivers just can't resist the urge to go fast. Remind me to never cadge a lift in a powerboat or helicopter that is being piloted by a current or ex-racing driver.

Stupid racing drivers can't resist the urge to go fast. The rest of us like going fast but know there's a time and a place.Doing 50 knots in a Canal whilst ratarsed is neither.

A shame? If he did cause the death of his friend, how on earth is it a shame?
WTF is it not a shame, one man dead, another's life and the life of both families affected forever ?Sounded very much to me like it was a shame because the man was talented. Either way, his stupidity killed a man. Deserved what he got, even if the sentence seemed short.
