So, the C63 needed one wheel refurbished after my incompetence and a protruding kerb.

As they are two toned diamond cut wheels, I was resigned to the fact that I would need the wheel professionally stripped and refinished.

As I dont have a driveway, I can't leave the car on axle stands in order to send a single wheel to lepsons and the like. I accepted that i would probably need to either take the car to a proper refurbishing company and leave the car with them or just leave the wheel. I chose the former.

I thought I would just check out the Dealers and to my surprise they said it would be something they could do despite the wheel being two toned - the chap assured me that they have the facilities to strip the wheel down and do the job properly, not a touch in style repair. Great. They even said that they could turn this around in 2 days - if I dropped it off on Wednesday 8am, I could have it back thursday evening. They emphasised the importance of dropping it off early.

I even passed by the dealership on the way home on monday from a mates place and thought it would best for them to see it prior to bringing it in this morning.

They guy looked at it and agreed it would be fine, 'an easy fix for our techs'. Brilliant.

So, this morning I drop it off at 8am and sit tight with the prospect of receiving a call thursday pm or friday morning at the latest.

I get a call 5 minutes ago saying that 'because it is two tone' and their inhouse wheel refurb guys can't fix it as they only do 'smart repairs' and they will need to send the wheel off to another company but can't be done until after the muddle of next week.

fking idiots - This is a main dealer where you would expect a little more common sense.

I suppose they are used to dealing with clueless customers.

Was the guy you showed it to the refurb chap on site or a salesman?

No doubt the salesman, quite happy to lie to make their service sound better, on the assumption that the customer won't know any better.

It was allegedly the chap who was the 'wheel guy'.

Bear in mind the service site is not based at the sales centre, thankfully.

They have since contacted me to state that the wheel will now be sent off to their external company.

Let's see if they are true to their word and do a proper job by tomorrow!?

I have never known a dealer do wheel refurbs with their own staff - generally have a mobile "man in a van" who will do smart repairs on stock vehicles and alloy wheels

Huh you have been had. I bet they knew they couldn't do it from the off. However if they get to do it they make money out of you.

Going back a couple of years here now, but I seem to remember I used Premier Wheel Repairs in London to have a Mk6 Golf GTi wheel refurbished (Not even a mile on the clock, oops!) They turned it round in 2 working days and the finish was outstanding especially as it was a decent gouge. Couldn't tell the difference. Diamond cut wheels cannot be refurbished by a bodyshop or a man in a van.
